The need for a front hitch mount.
All of our camping, hiking and fishing adventures start with our Nissan NV Passenger 3500! If you have followed Kemp Outside for a while you know how much we love our NV, but even a full size van can’t carry everything our family might want on our road trip adventures! That’s why we added a front hitch mount to the KempBus!
We love to take Pontoon-A-Fish, our Sylvan pontoon boat with us when we travel. There is just something really cool about exploring the waters of the United States and trying to catch whatever the local gamefish happens to be. But we also wanted to take our bikes with us. Our kids love to explore the parks where we camp on their bikes, and Barb likes to ride as well. With the back of the van taken up by a boat hitch, there was only one option, add a hitch to the front!
I saw a hitch design similar to this on on the Nissan NV Families Facebook Group. Unfortunately the person who built it was on the other side of the country, so I called my buddy Evan England and asked him if he could fabricate one for me. Evan is a fantastic metal fabricator among many other skills, and an avid outdoorsman. I knew he could help me and he did! To see more of Evan’s projects, check him out on Instagram!
In this video we show you how we built the hitch mount, modified the van so it would fit, and the final result. I think you will agree, if you have an NV, this is a great way to move gear.
I have more plans for this hitch mount than just a bike rack, but you will have to stay tuned to Kemp Outside to find out what we have planned!
