On this episode of Kemp Outside we show you how to fish for Northern Pike in Minnesota from a pontoon boat. During the hottest part of the summer, fish like bass can be down deep looking for cooler water. A great alternative is to fish for northern pike, a great game fish that is also delicious if you get one large enough to keep!
In this episode Kevin shows you how he uses trolling to catch pike. This is a great method especially when you may be renting or borrowing a boat that isn’t set up for fishing with a trolling motor or the latest fish finding sonar. This is also a great method for covering a lot of water if you are fishing somewhere you aren’t familiar with or haven’t fished in a while. In fact this video was shot from a pontoon boat we borrowed because we didn’t trail our pontoon all the way from Florida to Minnesota so this shows what you can do with a rented boat or one not set up for hardcore fishing.
In this video, we fish from a Sylvan 8520 Mirage Cruise N Fish. While this isn’t a hardcore fishing boat, you can see in the video catching fish is no problem on this boat. Don’t let using an unfamiliar boat stop you from trying to take your kids fishing! If you are planning a vacation where you may rent or borrow a pontoon boat, this video will give you some ideas for how to cover water and find fish from a boat you haven’t used before or one not set up for hardcore fishing!
Lastly, this is a great method for fishing with kids as the boat does most of the work and all they have to do is reel in fish!
